Youth Horsemanship Partner

Viking

Background

Viking made his presence known to all who help rescue from the Colorado kill pen. His stunning good looks made him impossible to miss. However, his plain brown wrapper couldn't compete with the other, more flashy, horses in need. As weeks went by we watched Viking be passed over, despite the many comments that said he was broke to ride. We had a potential home for one of our Youth Program horses, and we made the decision that Viking needed to join us, in the event we sent an equine partner home. We know nothing about his life before the kill pen, except that he is broke to ride.

Resident Status

Viking is presently still in our Nebraska quarantine facility, having recently recovered from a very rough bout of strangles. He has lost some weight, but we're happy to say he has recovered, and his spirits have perked up again.

When Viking joins us, he will join the other residents enrolled in our Youth Horsemanship Program. He has a special young lady who regularly volunteers who will also be working with him in the off months. He will be learning how to ride English as well, which will be a fun treat for him and us.

Viking is eligible for foster placement through May. Our current rehab horses demand a lot of time, and right now our resident horses need some more interaction.

Generally About Viking

Viking is a well-built, gorgeous Quarter-type gelding, with an expressive face that grabs hold of hearts and wins them immediately. He is intelligent, willing, and mannerly. He is sound, with no known health issues, and we have no idea how he ended up in a kill pen at only 14 years of age.
