Holiday

Background

In the fall of 2021, 70+ horses were on the kill lot in Colorado. Through a massive effort, nearly thirty were placed in private homes and rescues. However, several remained, scheduled to ship to Mexico in a few hours and face a brutal end. Of those remaining, one big-kneed beautiful paint gelding, formerly employed as a dude ranch horse, waited for a home, condemned to a terrible end because of an arthritic change in one knee. One knee he showed no lameness on. His shoes were new. His attitude gentle and willing. We pulled him, and he became the first horse slated for our Youth Program. In fact, our Youth Horsemanship Program came to be so this boy could have a job.

Resident Status

Despite a larger knee, Holiday is sound and beautiful. His beauty isn't just in his looks, however. He has a willing nature and oozes gentleness, especially with people. There's not a bone of protest in him, even though he's terrified to stand in a stall and just a little bit head shy.

Holiday is the founding member of our Youth Horsemanship Program and enjoys resident status on the farm. When he is not educating new kids, he enjoys being spoiled and cared for by our youth ambassadors, Pierce and Garrett.

He is dominant with other horses and currently he thinks Ice exists just for him--yes he is a gelding. Trust us when we say he is certainly not limited by his arthritic knee.

Generally About Holiday

We've all been on the trail horse rented for an afternoon ride while on vacation. Holiday is that horse. He is the most willing human partner that we have had the pleasure of working with, except for maybe our personal Standardbred, Coffee. He also has presence galore. He is big, powerful, and his tri-color coloring makes him a definite looker. We hope you'll come visit him -- we love to show him off.
