Rescue
We rescue all breeds of horses with a performance history at the race track, or those coming from race-training programs. On occassion we work with non-racing horses, depending on need and available space. Our horses typically come from environments that are extremely harsh and sometimes their needs are extensive. We do not work with seizure cases, and typically do not handle starvation cases as we do not have the facility requirements for all possible rehab scenarios (such as slings for extremely emaciated horses, or stalls that can support a sling system.)
If you have a critical needs situation, please reach out -- we can connect you properly!
Will you take owner surrenders?
Occassionally, on a case-by-case basis. However, we can connect you to rescues with wider scopes.
Rehabilitation
Our horses have diverse backgrounds and come from very diverse circumstances. Some leave the track with no physical injuries, some are severely broken. Some may have to let down mentally, some already have. We have rehabilitated bowed tendons, malnourishment, ulcers, hoof conditions, and so much more. A large part of our rehab time also goes to tending to the horses mental needs. Often, these horses have come from a high stress environment where there is no "bond" between humans. They need to decompress and learn that humans are enjoyable and begin to trust them.
Retraining
Our emphasis on retraining is for the English disciplines: dressage, jumping, hunters, eventing. All horses physically able to perform these disciplines are introduced to them. They are also hacked on trails and exposed to general pleasure riding. Horses that are not physically able are put into western training, emphasizing trail and pleasure riding.
Adoption
Once we feel a horse has successfully recovered from any health issues (physical or mental) and is performing under saddle safely enough for a new owner to further the horse's training, we adopt them to approved homes. Adoption placements are more of a lifetime lease -- the adopter may do anything within the horse's physical limitations, but we retain ownership and the horse cannot be sold. We will also accept any horse that needs to return to us, no matter the reason, and few questions asked.
See our Adoption Process for more information.
