Welcome

Sammie Jo

Background

Sammie has angels smiling down on her. When we discovered her, she had 12 hours left on a direct ship lot in Tennessee. It was already well after midnight EST, and Sammie's chances were very very slim. Add into the fact she was listed as a 5yr old unhandled Thoroughbred broodmare, and her chances were pitiful. We reached out, and woke up in the morning literally her new owners. An amazingly kind and generous angel donor saw our message and worked some miracles: bail, QT, and transport. Sammie was out of the lot and in QT within 36 hours, and then Sammie's angel sent her a brand new blankie and super fancy, elegant halter. Sammie's QT facility worked equal miracles. Vetting the next day showed Sammie was not anything close to a 5yr old unhandled broodmare. She is 2.5 to 3yrs old, never had a foal, and just untrained with a hunger for learning. She also may be a crossbreed, but who is counting DNA? That day, Sammie got the hang of leading. She is still in quarantine at this writing, and will arrive from Tennessee closer to March.

Rehabilitation Plan

We seem to be starting our own 3-year-old Thoroughbred filly herd here! Sammie will continue her new spoiled-horse life when she arrives. She will join Ice and Lilly, hopefully establishing "friendships."

Sammie has no known lameness issues or physical health concerns. We will pick up where her QT facility has left off, working on leading, ground manners, and all things "horse."

Again, because of her young age, we don't want to stress her developing joints, so further training will not be intensive. She will work on in-hand skills, light ground work on very large circles, and an introduction to light riding.

When we feel she is stead and reliable enough to go on to another home, we will transition her to "adoptable."

Generally About Sammie

Sammie is full of personality and possesses an eagerness to learn. She's also proving to be a quick learner. She was terrified of her blanket, more so than her halter training, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the videos that have been shared. We think she knows she is a spoiled princess now. At the same time, she's a bit of a goof. So her tomboyish name totally fits. She's a little rough around the edges, but she will come out shining like a superstar.
