Youth and horses just go together. There are so many benefits that come from pairing kids (and adults) with horses:
"Research now confirms the beneficial effects of horse involvement. One study, sponsored in part by the AYHC, looked at youngsters participating in 4-H, Pony Club, or American Quarter Horse Youth Association or National High School Rodeo Association activities in one eastern and one western state. Results found a significant positive relationship between horsemanship skills and life skills" ~ Horse & Rider Magazine, Oct 22, 2019.
To this end, we offer a summer youth horsemanship program, because we believe all children should experience horses..
WHAT - A five-day program designed to teach youth participants safety basics, ground handling skills, grooming, and basic under-saddle lessons in both English and Western. Additional instruction covers equine confirmation and basic health, skeletal systems, and routine care and maintenance. Our stable of "steady-eddie" kids horses look forward to this opportunity each year and love the attention they receive from kids. Other events include painting, bathing horses, and a visit with the blacksmith (farrier).
WHEN - Every other week during the months of June, July, and August. Drop off at 10am, pick up at 4pm. (Parent work schedules can be accomodated.)
WHO - All youth ages 8 and older with an interest in or curiosity about horses. Special Needs children are welcome with an adult caretaker present. Please have your camper bring a sack lunch daily.
COST - $250.00 per child, $100 of which is non-refundable. Grants available for low-income families, please contact us.
We are limited by how many suitable horses are available each year - openings fill quickly!
