Rescue Registry

We are so excited to be spearheading a national effort for registering all rescue horses. We are in the "Just After Planning" stage and making our necessary connections to be able to launch this appropriately.

Brief Overview

WHY - The primary benefit is for rescues to be able to have a visible way to identify whether a horse that finds itself suddenly in a bad spot (at auction, in a kill pen, abandoned, etc.) belongs to a rescue. This may be a private rescue, a registered non-profit, or even someone who may rescue one or two horses a year and place them in adoptive homes. By using a readily identifiable brand, similar to how Standardbreds are freeze branded, and logging individual horse records into a large database, rescuers nation-wide can look up horses and quickly discover where it's home is.

But WHY is it necessary? - The vast majority of equine rescues place horses under contracts that disallow the sale of the adopted horse. Specifically, the horse is to return to the rescue in any situation where an adopter can no longer, or no longer wishes, to provide care. 90% of the time, there are no questions asked. But people frequently ignore the contract, and rescues lose horses, despite their vigilence in keeping up with their placements. (Just like many people are taken advantage of with buyback clauses on horse sales.) This cuts down on the possibility of unscrupulous adopters taking advantage of rescued horses.

Adopter Participation - so many people adopt horses from rescues and enter them in fun shows, trail ride all over, compete, and many other things. We will be working into our rescue the ability for adopters to connect their rescue horse with a discipline (or two or three!) and submit records to compete for high-point awards with prizes at the end of the year. It's just one more way to support rescue in general and show off your adopted partners!

How Do I Sign Up? - Watch this page for more announcements. Right now we are working on the back-end software to accomplish this hefty endeavor.
