Noelle
A few days before Christmas 2021, the horses in the Colorado lot were waiting for a miracle. This senior mare (named Tee), somewhat skinny, had no one interested in providing her a safe landing. Her age was condemning her, despite her stunning beauty. Charmed by her appearance and the reports that she was sweet and kind, we couldn't leave her without a miracle. We pulled her and named her Christmas. We know nothing about her previous life, but assume she was a broodmare. She is, however, calm, quiet, and tolerant enough to work on the ground with kids. However, the longer we've owned her, the more her name didn't fit. Everytime we said it, a long-ago cat came to mind. To keep with the spirit of the season, we have renamed her something more elegant -- Noelle.
Noelle is scheduled to arrive in spring. Her senior status was not something we were prepared to accomodate during the winter as we have no senior horses on site. Additionally, she needed to put on some weight, and so she is still in our Nebraska quarantine facility.
She has indeed put on weight, and her personality hasn't changed. Generally, horses listed at 18+ on the lot, are in their 20s, and we anticipate discovering she is truly a senior, not a late teenager, when our vet takes a peek at her. Spring, summer, and fall are plenty of time for us to prepare a special place for her to winter and find her a calm, gentle-natured buddy.
Meanwhile, we will see how she feels about light riding. She will enter our Youth Horsemanship Program and teach kids about handling horses. She's easy-going and would thoroughly enjoy the attention. Certainly senior status doesn't mean a horse can't be ridden, but we need to see how Noelle feels about all that before we commit to enrolling her for more than ground handling.
We assume that Noelle was a broodmare for the majority of her life. She is sound, but no mention was made that she was broke to ride. However, chances are high the lot just didn't put time in to do any evaluating, and therefore, didn't lable her as broke. She is an overo paint, with a bald face, and very much resembles an "Indian pony." She's definitely a looker, and she and Holiday make a really cute pair.
