Grain

Background

Grain (please give me a new name!) also came off a Colorado kill lot in the fall of 2021. He was part of a larger effort and found freedom with his buddy, Humble, who is very much attached to him. He is kid broke and sweet as sweet can be. Nothing seems to faze him. He gets along well with other horses and seems to enjoy taking care of Humble, although he is less affected by separation than she is. We know absolutely nothing about his life before the kill lot. We can presume he was a child's horse, and his gentle nature only proves that assumption true.

Resident Status

Grain is a core member of our Youth Horsemanship Program. His former status as a child's horse makes him ideal for working with more children. He is an easy keeper and gets along well with other horses too.

Both Grain and Humble are elegible for foster placement, however, they must stay together--it's too stressful on Humble to be separated. While they would need to return for our summer programs, Grain would make an ideal learning partner or a family horse.

Generally About Grain

Grain is a late teenager at 17 years, and will need some dental attention this spring. He maintains well, but we want to insure he continues to do so, and therefore, need to do preventive upkeep. We've yet to find anything that rattles this boy. He's cute, and kind, and generally happy to participate in whatever he's asked to do.

Grain needs a new name! The first to sponsor him, may have the privelege of naming him. Otherwise, please send us ideas!
