Welcome
ASAP
ASAP has had a really rough go of things. He was pulled from a kill pen in Colorado, after being listed as a very gorgous, halter-broke, Morgan. However, after being pulled, it was quickly discovered either he has been abused to the point that he's just completely out of whack mentally, or he has never been touched. His lot photos don't appear to show any influence of sedation. And yet, this boy carries on like a truly wild horse and is absolutely terrified of people. Needless to say, that is not what his adopter anticipated, and we stepped in to help the family out.
As mentioned, ASAP is either traumatized or completely unhandled. He is terrified of humans. While he is safe here in our mustang pen, his needs exceed our skills, and we're professional enough to admit that.
At the end of September, we will be sending ASAP to a phenomenal mustang trainer, Casey Hollingsworth, where he will be 'gentled.' Whether he is wild, or traumatized from abuse, he will gain confidence and experience training with a loving touch. We have a deep respect for Casey, and what she has done for our horses previously, is truly amazing.
Depending on the root cause of his current fear, what happens after training will be determined later. Ideally, we'd like to get him to a point where we can continue training here. But there are too many variables to answer whether he can go on to the adoption-ready list, or whether he will need long-term rescue placement.
It's really hard to offer much more information when a horse won't let people within 10 feet of him. He is big, and beautiful, and has so much promise. He has allowed the younger kids to interact with him, especially at feeding time.
ASAP needs a NAME! If you have suggestions, let us know! If you'd like to sponsor him, you may have the privlege of naming him.
ASAP's training is $650 for 2 months, minimum. We need $1300.00. PLEASE consider donating so he can have a happy future!
